Stock Up On Booze Now! LCBO STRIKE LOOMS!
As if the thought of hot smelly piles of garbage building up from the Toronto City Workers Strike isn’t bad enough, the LCBO workers are threatening a strike of their own.
The union representing 7,200 staff members of the Liquor Control Board of Ontario will go on strike at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday June 24th if a collective agreement cannot be reached with the provincial government.
A key issue has been the LCBO's move away from full-time jobs toward a casual workforce.
Vanda Klumper, chairwoman of the union’s bargaining group, said if the LCBO insists on using part-time workers the union “will not hesitate to take this battle to the streets."
So what does this all mean? Well in Ontario, pretty much the only place you can buy booze is from the LCBO, with the exception of breweries and wine making establishments. So this means you won't be able to buy booze unless your willing to drive south of the border or to Quebec. All restaurants, bars, and nightclubs also purchase their alcohol from the LCBO, so they might be affected as well. Will the strike happen? We will see Wednesday. If it happens, how long will it last? Only time can tell.
Will the summer of 09' be the summer of bootlegging in Ontario?
