Pornography or online shopping?
American Apparel is best known for their clothing of minimal design and basic cotton wear. Within the past few years American Apparel has made a large name for itself and everyone I know owns at least a couple pieces from AA if not half a closet full. I myself am addicted to American Apparel and visit one of their locations on a weekly basis, I also frequently find myself on their website looking for new items and online shopping. While recently browsing their website I notice their photographs of models in the clothing leaning more and more towards the "sex sells" image. Although their advertisements and photographs of models have always been a bit on the risky side, it has always been done somewhat tasteful and not enough to make me wonder. Nowadays they aren't stopping at somewhat risky they are taking it all the way to borderline pornographic. I suppose with their clothing being so simple without complicated design they must find a way to make the advertising fun and interesting. If they were trying to make their adverts controversial they have definitely succeeded. But is it offensive? I am not personally offended and I do think that it is quite sexy. I wouldn't be surprise if 14 year old boys were visiting their images for pleasure. I can see lots of people getting turned on by shopping online at American Apparel or flipping through one of their catalogs. That being said, after all they do sell children's wear and I could see how some people may not agree.
Too much or just enough?...
